GATUNGA, KENYA: December 9, 2018 – Rebecca Gatiiria Mutiiria, 41, walks to this river when the water that is piped to her house from the same river stops working. It takes an hour roundtrip each time she goes to collect water. They do four trips a day (4 hours) to collect water for 5-6 people. Sometimes she goes and sometimes her daughters do. She uses this water to cook, to feed the animals, and for washing clothes. When they use it to wash or to cook, they boil it first. Sometimes the water is clear and sometimes it's brown like this after its been raining. She's only had to go to the river once this year for seven days. Otherwise the pipes are working. But, the pipes bring water from the same river.
