Editorial Policy

Purpose

The THROAT Editorial Policy establishes the guiding principles and operational standards for all written, visual, and multimedia content produced, published, or hosted on the platform. Its primary aim is to protect the integrity of our mission-driven marketplace, safeguard our stakeholders, and ensure all editorial decisions are aligned with THROAT’s vision of amplifying frontline voices confronting political, social, environmental, economic, and conflict-related issues.

Editorial Independence & Integrity

  • THROAT operates with full editorial independence. No external funder, advertiser, or partner may influence the selection, framing, or distribution of content.
  • We reject any form of censorship that undermines freedom of expression, except where required by applicable law or where content violates our safety or harm-prevention guidelines.
  • All editorial content will be accurate, verifiable, and grounded in fact. Creative works will be contextualized with appropriate disclaimers when they employ metaphor, symbolism, or satire.

Content Scope

THROAT publishes and curates:

  • Artworks that align with our defined Issue Areas and reflect lived experiences or informed perspectives on urgent and underreported struggles.
  • Editorial Features including interviews, essays, investigative reports, and multimedia storytelling that connect the art to the social, political, and cultural contexts in which it was created.
  • Stakeholder Contributions from artists, curators, activists, independent journalists, advocacy groups, and technical experts.

We Do Not Publish:

  • Content promoting hate speech, discrimination, or targeted harassment.
  • Unverified or deliberately misleading information.
  • Works generated primarily by AI without meaningful human authorship or creative intervention.

Contributor Responsibilities

  • Accuracy: All factual claims must be supported by credible sources; data should be current and clearly attributed.
  • Safety: Contributors must adhere to a “Do No Harm” approach when reporting from conflict zones or politically volatile regions. Sensitive identities may be anonymized to protect personal safety.
  • Rights & Permissions: All submitted work must be original or accompanied by documented permissions for use. Contributors retain copyright unless otherwise contracted, while granting THROAT the rights necessary for publication and promotion.

Editorial Review Process

  • Submissions are reviewed for thematic alignment, factual accuracy, originality, and adherence to THROAT’s mission and community guidelines.
  • Content undergoes a dual review by an editorial lead and, when applicable, a subject-matter expert to ensure contextual accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
  • THROAT reserves the right to edit, fact-check, or decline content that does not meet our standards.

Corrections & Accountability

  • We maintain a transparent corrections process. If factual errors are identified post-publication, they will be corrected promptly with a visible note.
  • Content that is later determined to cause undue harm or violate this policy may be removed or revised at THROAT’s discretion.

Protection of Vulnerable Contributors

Given the high-risk environments in which many of our stakeholders operate:

  • We implement encrypted submission options for artists, journalists, and activists in conflict or surveillance-heavy regions.
  • Personally identifying information may be withheld from public-facing content to safeguard individuals from reprisals.
  • Contributors can request restricted geographic access or time-delayed publication for sensitive work.

Editorial Alignment with Mission

All THROAT content will:

  • Reflect the platform’s commitment to Real Art, Real Issues, Real Voices.
  • Advance informed dialogue, cultural literacy, and civic engagement.
  • Avoid sensationalism and prioritize narratives that challenge erasure, promote justice, and encourage solidarity.
