YANGON, MYANMAR, March 9, 2021. YCDC waste bins, sandbags, and stacked bricks block a residential street. Township residents built the barricade to slow military vehicles entering their neighborhood. The day before, security forces besieged roughly 200 protesters in Sanchaung township with stun grenades and live ammunition. By this date, the Tatmadaw had killed more than 50 civilians since the February 1 coup. Martial law banned gatherings of more than five people. The protests continued. So did the barricades. Residents used what they had. The flowers from the early days were gone. Sources: AAPP (Assistance Association for Political Prisoners); United Nations Myanmar.
