Aung Naing Soe b. 1990 (United States of America)

Aung Naing Soe is a freelance multimedia journalist originally from Yangon, Myanmar. He collaborates with various international organizations and began his career in the media industry as a local producer in 2012. He has worked as a freelance photographer for multiple publications, including TIME, The New Yorker, and The Washington Post. In 2017, he won second prize in the "My Yangon My Home" photo competition and was also a finalist for the 2017 Global Fixer News Award from the Kurk Shock Memorial Fund. Aung has produced documentaries and TV packages for international channels such as Al Jazeera, TRT World, Channel 4, Vice News, and CNA. In 2019, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he was awarded the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship in Communication at Arizona State University. During his time there, he covered significant issues, including the Mexico-Arizona border situation, the coronavirus outbreak, and the historic Black Lives Matter movement. In late 2020, he returned to Myanmar to cover the General Election and later witnessed the brutal coup d'état in February 2021. Between 2021 and 2024, he experienced the most prolific period of his freelance career, during which he wrote stories, produced at least eight documentary films, and created numerous TV news packages. Additionally, he co-authored a book titled "Frontline Poets," published in mid-2025. Currently, he is working on his first feature-length documentary film, titled "When a Poet Goes to War."
